The Sound Access Committee is engaged in the oversight and maintenance of the two VNHPOA Sound Access Parks. It also identifies necessary refurbishment or replacement initiatives for sound access structures and equipment, including the soundside piers, bulkheads, kayak racks, bike racks, picnic tables, swings, and parking areas. The Sound Access Committee chairperson is Mark Eliades. Other committee members are Mary Beth Eliades, Beverly Head, and Don Armistead.
Sound Access Park Policies
To maintain the Sound Access Parks as places of enjoyment and recreation for our residents, several policies govern their use:
Overnight parking from midnight to 6:00 a.m. is not permitted.
Launching any motorized vessel, including wave runners, is not permitted.
Vessels or boats of any sort, motorized or not, cannot be tied off to any portion of the piers, nor may they be moored less than 50 yards from any pier.
Setting off fireworks is not permitted.
Please clean up after your pets – waste stations are available.
Cutting bait and cleaning fish is limited to the available bait stations. There are two at each Park.
Watercraft Storage & Operation Policies
There are kayak/canoe storage racks at both park locations. Additionally, the South Sound Access Park has a storage area for day sailors. These amenities are subject to the following conditions of use:
Any boat, trailer, kayak/canoe at either Sound Access Park stored for more than 30 days must be registered and owners must sign the VNHPOA Kayak & Boat Storage Agreement Downlaodable PDF. Registration is for a 3-year period and can be accomplished by contacting Seaside Management, Inc. shannon@
seaside-management.com or (252) 261-1200. Upon registration, stickers will be issued that must be affixed to the boat, trailer, kayak, or canoe.
Boats stored at the South Sound Access Park are limited to those capable of being launched from there according to this policy. Likewise, trailers stored there must be for boats authorized for use at the South Sound Access Park and must be roadworthy and properly registered with a State authority. Boat or trailer storage is NOT permitted at the North Sound Access Park.
Unregistered items left at either Sound Access Park for longer than 30 days shall be considered abandoned and subject to removal.
Please be mindful of bathers while launching or operating watercraft in or around the Sound Access Park areas. The Town of Nags Head has ordinances that govern the operation of watercraft within certain distances of the shoreline or when bathers are present, which you should familiarize yourself with.
